How to play Chess Arena
Goal: Checkmate your opponent's king before they checkmate yours.
Controls
- mouse or touch: select and move pieces on the board
- Arrow keys: move focus between squares on the board, or step backward and forward through move history when not focused on the board
- Tab: move focus between controls, such as promotion choices
- Escape: cancel current selection or close a dialog
Your first game
- Choose to play against the computer, a friend on one device, or online
- Select a piece by clicking, tapping, or using the arrow keys
- Move it to a new square to make your move
- Choose a piece when promoting a pawn
- Use the move history controls to step back and review the game afterward
